Our Story
Dan first met Christina when she was 20 and he 22 (2001) when they both worked at Guest-tek at the help desk. She had first peaked Dan's interest when one day all the guys were busy on the phones and Dan was stuck in a video game. Unbeknownst to Dan, Christina was quite familiar with this game. He was amazed when she was not only able to help him get un-stuck, but also to give him advice on how to play some of the trickier parts of the game. "A girl who actually plays computer games!", was his thought and from there, they quite easily became good friends.
In 2004, Dan decided to make a career move and left Guest-tek for greener pastures. 2 years after Dan's departure Christina left as well. As time went on and they moved along with their own lives, neither expected that their paths would cross again.
In the fall of 2006, while Christina was watching a girlfriend's (Jeni Lynn) soccer game, Dan entered the soccer center to play his own soccer game. They briefly caught up and had left the conversation with promises of getting together with the old Guest-tek gang for a sushi lunch.
A few emails back and forth and they both decided to hang out to catch up even more – which brought them to watching Casino Royale one Sunday evening. After chatting non-stop for 2 hours prior to the movie (and after the movie, where the teenage employees had to kick them out), it was no surprise that several such outings occurred over time.
Dan (with a little encouragement from Robbi) took Christina out on their first official date on December 6, 2006. Little did he know that the suggested venue would provide plenty of opportunity for Christina to give her own personal bowling ball and shoes a whirl for the night (she used to be part of a recreational bowling league). From that point on, they experienced many adventures together: traveling to Brazil, Philippines, Bali, Hong Kong, East and West Canada, road trips to music festivals, riding their motorbikes, salsa lessons, hiking, snowboarding/skiing, ultimate frisbee, shooting (cameras and guns) – the activities never slowed with them.
On July 31, 2008 Dan proposed to Christina on top of Crescent Heights, with some clandestine help from their friend, Kris Ellens. They had gone for a walk after dinner (which was not out of the norm) and decided to go up to a particularly private bench on the hill overlooking downtown where they had spent an evening before. The difference this time was that a blanket, rose, champagne and champagne flutes were artistically displayed, awaiting their arrival. Christina was of course touched, but given that Dan had done things such as this many times before, she was not expecting a proposal of any sort. Dan had mentioned that they were celebrating an anniversary – and after some deliberation on Christina's part, he then said, "Not the anniversary of our first date, but what will be the anniversary of the day that I ask you to marry me." He then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Through foggy eyes, Christina of course said, "Yes". After a private moment together, Dan then called his partner in crime (Kris) who came donned in camera gear and photographed the moment.
